ABOUT
Founder, Julia Dransfield born in Yorkshire, UK, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Knitwear Design. Following her studies, she worked and lived in London, New York, and Los Angeles, where she currently resides and founded JUD.
Drawing on inspirations from the traditional knitting techniques of her youth, she begins developing new stitches and shapes by hand, creating prototypes in Los Angeles. Each step of the design process is approached with integrity to ensure that every piece is distinctive and unique.
After knitting and carefully assembling each prototype in LA, she travels to Peru to work closely with an exclusive network of highly skilled knitters in their local communities. This collaboration with each individual knitter brings their unique style and inherent character to each piece, not only ensuring the uniqueness of the knitting but also improving the social and economic empowerment of the artisans involved.
Other pieces in the collection are made locally in LA using a hand flat knitting machine. These machines are generally slower than industrial machines, as the process is manual and each row is knitted individually. This allows us to produce smaller-scale, custom pieces.
