SUSTAINABILTY
At JUD, we approach things with care, intention, and respect for where things come from and how they are made. We keep our knitwear collections small and focused, working to refine each piece so that it lasts in quality, relevance, and wear. We believe in building our company slowly, adding only what makes sense, and making sure every piece earns its place.
We work in small runs, using natural fibers and collaborating closely with skilled knitters in Peru and local makers in Los Angeles. The goal is to produce as close to the source as possible—supporting traditional techniques and reducing unnecessary transport.
We only use materials that meet a high standard for both quality and responsibility. That said, sourcing exceptional yarns that are also sustainably made isn’t always easy. Sometimes the fiber we want doesn’t yet exist in the form we need. So we’ve started developing our own yarns exclusive to JUD. They will be spun in the same country where the pieces are made, using organic fibers when possible, and made with mills that share our standards for craftsmanship, ethics, and environmental care.
Our current cotton is grown without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and our wool is always mulesing-free. All fibers are processed using low-impact methods by suppliers who follow strong labor and environmental standards, and who share our expectations for quality, labor rights, and animal welfare. We work with a small number of mills and workshops so we can stay involved and know how things are being done.
Caring for your knitwear is part of keeping it in use for years. Most pieces can be hand washed and laid flat to dry, small steps that make a difference in how they age. Some styles may need dry cleaning, if so, we recommend finding a cleaner that uses more environmentally friendly methods.
Orders ship in EcoEnclose packaging made from recycled, recyclable materials, a small but intentional choice to reduce waste.
Sustainability is part of how we work, and we’ll keep adjusting as we learn and grow. JUD is about owning fewer things that mean more. If you’re no longer wearing something, pass it on, resell it, give it to someone who’ll love it, or just make sure it stays in use. Longevity is key.
